Most Klaviyo benchmark data comes from platform-wide averages that mix B2B newsletters with eCommerce transactional emails, luxury brands with mass market, engaged lists with cold ones. The result is a number that describes nobody in particular.
The benchmarks in this post come from 150+ DTC Klaviyo accounts managed by Signify Studio over the past two years. Fashion, beauty, home goods, food and beverage, wellness, apparel. Brands doing $500K a year and brands doing $10M. We have been inside these accounts every day — building flows, running campaigns, watching what moves and what doesn’t.
If you’re a DTC brand on Klaviyo, these are the numbers that actually apply to you.
How We Collected This Data
These benchmarks are derived from Klaviyo accounts we actively manage or have audited through FlowScore, our free Klaviyo audit tool. All data is anonymized and aggregated. We pulled 12 months of performance data across flow emails and campaigns, segmented by vertical where the sample size was sufficient.
We did not include:
- Accounts in their first 90 days (list not yet warmed)
- Accounts with active deliverability problems
- Accounts with fewer than 2,500 active subscribers
What’s left is a clean picture of what healthy, active DTC email marketing systems actually look like.
Open Rate Benchmarks
The platform average Klaviyo publishes mixes everything together. Here’s what we see in DTC specifically.
| Vertical | Average Open Rate | Top Quartile |
|---|---|---|
| Apparel & Fashion | 34% | 44%+ |
| Beauty & Skincare | 38% | 49%+ |
| Home & Lifestyle | 31% | 41%+ |
| Food & Beverage | 36% | 47%+ |
| Wellness & Supplements | 33% | 43%+ |
| DTC Overall Average | 34% | 45%+ |
What this means for you: If your open rates are below 25%, you have a deliverability or list health problem — not a subject line problem. Fix the foundation before optimizing the creative.
Open rates above 45% consistently correlate with one thing in our data: a strong welcome series. Subscribers who convert in the first 10 days open everything. Those who don’t convert tend to drag the average down permanently.
Click Rate Benchmarks
Click rate is where most brands discover how much work their emails aren’t doing.
| Email Type | Average Click Rate | Top Quartile |
|---|---|---|
| Campaigns (promotional) | 1.8% | 3.2%+ |
| Campaigns (educational/content) | 2.4% | 4.1%+ |
| Welcome Series | 3.1% | 5.8%+ |
| Abandoned Cart | 4.6% | 8.2%+ |
| Post-Purchase | 3.8% | 6.4%+ |
| Win-Back | 1.4% | 2.9%+ |
What we see consistently: Brands obsess over open rates and ignore click rates. A 38% open rate with a 0.9% click rate is a positioning problem. Your subscribers are curious enough to open. They’re just not seeing anything worth clicking. That’s a copy and offer problem, not a deliverability problem.
Flow Performance Benchmarks
Flows are where the real money lives. These are the numbers from accounts with well-built, optimized flow sequences.
Welcome Series
| Metric | Average | Top Quartile |
|---|---|---|
| 30-day subscriber-to-buyer conversion | 8% | 18%+ |
| Open rate (email 1) | 52% | 64%+ |
| Open rate (email 5) | 28% | 39%+ |
| Revenue per subscriber (30 days) | $4.20 | $9.80+ |
A single welcome email converts at 2–3%. A five-email series converts at 8–18%. That gap is entirely attributable to sequence length and timing — not copy quality.
Abandoned Cart
| Metric | Average | Top Quartile |
|---|---|---|
| Recovery rate (3-email sequence) | 12% | 22%+ |
| Recovery rate (1-email sequence) | 4% | 8%+ |
| Revenue recovered per 100 carts | $340 | $780+ |
The single most impactful change we make in any new Klaviyo account: extending a one-email abandoned cart to a three-email sequence. The average recovery rate triples. Most brands have the one email. Almost none have the three.
Post-Purchase
| Metric | Average | Top Quartile |
|---|---|---|
| Repeat purchase rate within 90 days | 18% | 31%+ |
| Open rate | 44% | 58%+ |
| Revenue per recipient | $6.10 | $13.40+ |
Post-purchase is the most underbuilt flow in our entire dataset. 60% of accounts we audit have no post-purchase sequence at all. Of those that do, most have only an order confirmation. A real post-purchase sequence — cross-sell, education, review request, loyalty nudge — is the difference between a one-time buyer and a repeat customer.
Win-Back
| Metric | Average | Top Quartile |
|---|---|---|
| Re-engagement rate | 9% | 17%+ |
| Open rate (email 1) | 21% | 34%+ |
| Suppression-to-revenue conversion | 3% | 8%+ |
Win-back is the most underrated flow in terms of pure ROI. These subscribers already bought once. The cost of re-engaging them is zero. The brands hitting 17%+ re-engagement rates share one characteristic: they make a real offer in the first email. Not “we miss you.” An actual reason to come back.
Campaign Frequency Benchmarks
How often you send matters more than most brands realize — in both directions.
| Send Frequency | Average Monthly Revenue from Email | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 campaigns/month | $4,200 | Underperforming |
| 3–4 campaigns/month | $9,800 | Baseline healthy |
| 5–8 campaigns/month | $16,400 | Consistent compounding |
| 9+ campaigns/month | $14,100 | Slight fatigue begins |
The drop-off at 9+ isn’t dramatic — but it’s consistent. The sweet spot in our data is 5–8 sends per month. Below that, you’re leaving money on the table. Above that, you start seeing slight list fatigue in the unsubscribe data.
List Health Benchmarks
Deliverability is the thing that silently kills email marketing systems. By the time you notice it, the damage is already done.
| Metric | Healthy | Warning | Critical |
|---|---|---|---|
| Suppression rate | Under 3% | 3–6% | 6%+ |
| Bounce rate | Under 0.5% | 0.5–1% | 1%+ |
| Unsubscribe rate (campaigns) | Under 0.3% | 0.3–0.6% | 0.6%+ |
| Spam complaint rate | Under 0.08% | 0.08–0.2% | 0.2%+ |
A suppression rate above 6% in our accounts correlates almost perfectly with declining open rates over the following 60–90 days. It takes months to fix. It takes weeks to cause. Clean your list before it costs you.
The Gap Between Average and Top Quartile
The most important pattern in all of this data: the gap between average and top quartile is not about effort. It’s almost entirely about flow coverage and structure.
The brands in the top quartile on every metric above share the same profile:
- A five-email welcome series with clear timing
- A three-email abandoned cart sequence
- A post-purchase sequence of at least four emails
- A win-back flow that triggers at 60–90 days of inactivity
- Campaign cadence of at least one send per week
That’s it. No advanced segmentation tricks. Just the fundamentals built correctly.
