moment someone buys from your beauty brand is the best moment to deepen the relationship. They’ve made a decision. They’re excited. And for the next 5–7 days while they’re waiting for their order, they’re more receptive to your emails than they’ll be for a long time.

Most beauty brands send an order confirmation and a shipping notification. That’s it. The window between “order placed” and “product in hand” — and the weeks that follow — is almost entirely wasted.

Here’s what a properly built post-purchase sequence looks like, and why each email matters.

Email 1: Order confirmation + what to expect

Most brands get this one right — it confirms the order, shows what was purchased, gives a delivery estimate. But there’s almost always a missed opportunity.

Add one line that sets up the next email: “We’ll send you a quick guide on getting the most out of

before it arrives.”

Now they’re expecting your next email and they’ll open it. That sentence is worth more than any subject line trick.

Email 2: Pre-arrival education (Day 2)

Before the product arrives, send a short email that helps them use it well. For skincare: application order, how long before results, what to pair it with. For haircare: prep, tools, technique. For makeup: the look it was designed for, what it replaces in their routine.

This email does two things. It builds anticipation. And it pre-empts buyer’s remorse — someone who understands what they bought and knows how to use it is less likely to return it and more likely to come back.

Email 3: Arrival check-in (Day 5–7)

Time this to land just after the product is expected to arrive. Subject line: “Your

should be there by now.”

Ask how it’s going. One simple question. Then show them one complementary product — not a grid, one specific thing with one specific reason why it works with what they just bought. This is where you plant the seed for the second purchase.

In Klaviyo, tag everyone who replies or clicks. These are your most engaged customers and they deserve a different track.

Email 4: Social proof + routine building (Day 10)

By day 10, they’ve used the product a few times. They have an opinion forming. This is the right moment to reinforce it with real reviews — not a star rating, but two or three specific quotes that speak to results: “My skin has never looked this clear” is more useful than 4.8 stars.

Then give them a next step. A routine. A complementary step in their regimen that your brand can solve. You’re not pushing another product — you’re completing the picture they already started building when they bought from you.

Email 5: Replenishment trigger (Day 25–35)

This one depends on your product cycle. A serum used twice a day runs out in about 30 days. A body lotion might last 60. Know your product and time this accordingly.

Arrive a few days before they run out. Keep the email simple: “Running low on ? Here’s where to grab another one.” Include a small incentive for repeat buyers — loyalty points, free shipping, or a bundle offer.

Replenishment emails are among the highest-converting sends in beauty. The customer loved the product and is actively looking for a nudge to reorder. Give them one before a competitor does.

Setting this up in Klaviyo

Build this as a single post-purchase flow triggered by “Placed Order.” Use filters to exclude wholesale or sample orders. Branch the flow if you have multiple product categories — a skincare buyer and a makeup buyer need different education emails.

Track these metrics across the flow:

  • Repeat purchase rate within 60 days — this sequence should move it
  • Revenue per recipient — the benchmark for a healthy post-purchase flow is $1.50–$3.00+
  • Which email drives the most second purchases — usually email 3 or 5

Pause the flow during major promotional periods to avoid message overlap with your campaign sends.

Why this matters more than any ad campaign

The average beauty brand spends heavily on acquiring first-time buyers and almost nothing on keeping them. A customer who buys twice is dramatically more valuable — not just in lifetime value, but in referrals, reviews, and organic word of mouth.

This sequence doesn’t require new traffic. It works on the customers you’re already converting. That’s why it’s the first flow we build for every beauty brand that comes through our door.
