Why Most Klaviyo Audits Miss the Real Problem

Marketing professional reviewing Klaviyo email marketing audit results at his desk

A lot of Klaviyo audits check whether the right flows exist. Far fewer check whether those flows are actually performing, and that gap is where most of the real, fixable problems hide.

An audit confirming welcome, abandoned cart, post-purchase, and win-back are all “live” produces a clean-looking report. But live and performing well are two different things, and a checklist-style audit often can’t tell them apart.

A flow can be live, correctly triggered, and still reference a discount code that expired months ago. It can look structurally sound while sending to a segment that no longer matches the brand’s actual customer base. It can appear complete on paper while its revenue per recipient has quietly declined for two straight quarters. None of that shows up if the audit only confirms existence instead of examining performance over time.

Checking whether a flow exists takes minutes. Checking whether it’s actually working means pulling historical RPR, checking segment logic against current customer behavior, and often clicking through the flow yourself as a customer would, real time an existence-check audit skips entirely.

A more thorough version looks at revenue per recipient trend across the last two or three quarters for every core flow, not just today’s snapshot. It checks whether segment definitions still reflect who the brand’s actual customers are now, not who they were when the segment was first built. It confirms every discount code and link in every flow still works at checkout. It checks deliverability at the provider level, not just an aggregate score.

Here’s how to tell which kind you’re getting. A checklist audit hands you a short list confirming what exists. A performance audit hands you specific findings tied to real numbers, this flow’s RPR dropped 30% over two quarters, this segment is missing an entire customer type, this code’s been broken since March. If an audit doesn’t come back with specific numbers and dates like that, it very likely only checked existence, not whether things actually work.
